Reform UK’s latest pledge to put British‑born families to the front of the social‑housing queue has been savaged as “desperate” by critics.
Nigel Farage’s party is set to unveiled a plan to tighten access to social homes, doubling down on its earlier pledge to kick foreign nationals out of council housing altogether.
But official figures revealed in January that nearly nine in ten social homes already go to UK nationals.
Housing campaigners blasted the move as a cynical stunt. Sarah Elliott, boss of Shelter, said Richard Tice’s new pledge was “designed to stoke division” and would “tear communities apart, disrupt thousands of families and push even more people towards homelessness.”
She warned politicians to stop “scoring cheap political points” and start building the 90,000 social rent homes a year Britain needs to stop the crisis spiralling.
