Social housing tenants would be kicked out if they fail to keep their gardens tidy, Reform UK chairman Lee Anderson said this morning.
Anderson said renters in social homes could be forced to keep their properties “decorated” and gardens properly maintained – or risk losing their roof altogether. His comments came as Reform rolled out its latest housing pledges, including giving priority to veterans and married couples with children if it wins the next general election. The party has already vowed to evict foreign nationals from social housing.
The Reform chairman said tenants should meet a “minimum level of upkeep,” harking back to post‑WW2 standards. Back then, he claimed, renters got a warning – but if they still didn’t keep their homes up to scratch, “you were out, and they gave it to another couple who would look after their property.”
“What is wrong with expecting people who live in subsidised housing, paid for by the hard‑working British taxpayer, to keep their house to a reasonable standard?”

He went on to accuse some tenants of moving into brand‑new homes and causing “mayhem and disturbances” on fresh housing estates.
